#2
Will Time Table Rhyme suit my child?
The Time Table Rhyme system is a true multi-sensory approach to
learning, employing both visual and auditory media; most people
are receptive to both. Time Table Rhyme employs a unique number
image system to give numbers a tangible image in your child's imagination.
The multiplication product is enhanced with simple characters to
create a number image, an anecdotal story, and a rhyming punch line
to provide a memory hook helping your child to remember more easily.
Children remember the multiplication product by combining a picture
with a story and a punch line. For example: Sally 7 the Sports Star
is showing PC Ernie 8 her judo, she has learnt some new swifty kicks.
"For effective memory it is necessary to have a system for linking
bits of information." Memory Hooks ? ref: Tony Buzan
This system is also
ideal for children who have a specific learning difficulty such
as Dyslexia, as the multi-sensory teaching brings out the best in
these gifted children.
#3
At what age group is Time Table Rhyme aimed?
This system is generally aimed at children aged from 5 to 10 years.
However, the memory techniques are universal and have been of benefit
to a good number of adults. You're never to old to learn!
#4
Is it more difficult to learn the characters & story?
Most children respond to and are stimulated by pictures. Until Time
Table Rhyme, a multiplication product had no picture and little
or no meaning to a young child. The Time Table Rhyme system number image system helps to create a tangible
image in your child's immagination. It is the number image and the punch
line that serve as memory hooks, and therefore help your child remember
the equation.
After
all, we can all remember nursery rhymes. How many bags of wool did
Bah Bah Black Sheep have?
Note:-
Do not try to make your child learn the story - it's not necessary!
Concentrate on the picture and the punch line.
#5 Are you moving away from maths?
No, not at all. The multiplication tables form the building blocks
of all mathematics. If you can't remember the multiplication tables,
even simple addition, division, and subtraction become difficult.
The key is being able to remember, and memory techniques are what
Time Table Rhyme is all about.
#6 How do I use Time Table Rhyme Learning
Cards?
Quick-start
instructions:
1)
Introduce your child to all the characters. Vital!
2)
Check with your child's class teacher as to which times tables set
are being taught in class.
3)
Concentrate on only one or two cards at a time; do not overload
your child.
4)
Say the equation - for example, 6 x 7, then look at the picture
and read the Rhyme, then the equation, repeating the punch line
after saying the answer: "6 x 7 = 42 Sporty too."
5)
Ask your child to visualise the two characters meeting and acting
out the scene described on the card. Adding action to the imaginary
picture helps children's brains to remember the picture for longer.
6)
Make it FUN! Use a lively voice!
7)
Work with your child - coach, but no pressure. Do not try to make
your child learn the story - It's not necessary! Concentrate on
the picture and the punch line.
